Travelling from Tenerife to the other Canary Islands and Spain

Living on one of the Canary Islands doesn’t limit you to staying on just the one island...all the other islands are within a stones throw and to Mainland Spain is only a couple of hours …there are various ways of getting there.

Here are some comparisons for travel in mid March;

Binter Airlines

The airline that travels between the islands is called Binter Canarias. They run regular flights during the day from one island to another. Advanced booking is advised as the flights can become full with queues of people and there are sometimes waiting lists. If you have a confirmed seat then check in is usually 45 minutes before the flight is due to depart.

The approximate price of the flight to travel from Tenerife South to Gran Canaria in mid March is $44 for Residents and €84 for non-residents, so there are advantages to being a resident. The journey takes 30 minutes.

Fred Olsen Ferry

The Fred Olsen ferry takes you from Tenerife North, Santa Cruz to Gran Canaria. The journey time is approximately 60 minutes and the prices are approximately €78.00 per person if you are a resident.

The fastest crossing from Tenerife to La Gomera goes via the harbour in Los Cristianos Tenerife to San Sebastián, La Gomera. The modern ferry Benchijigua Express by Fred Olsen covers this distance in about 40 minutes. This route is also operated by the big trailer ferry of Naviera Armas.

Naviera Armas Ferry

Armas travel from the port in Los Cristianos, Tenerife South and two residents travelling mid March travelling from Tenerife to Gran Canarias, would pay the same price as a flight by Binter…

The additional option you have if travelling via ferry is that you can take the car, this may cost you about €100 more but it can work out cheaper than hiring a car at the other end. Cicar car hire at Gran Canaria Airport have prices per week starting from €170 for a small vehicle such as an Opel.

Ryanair

Flights from Tenerife South to Madrid mid March can be as little as €40.00 euros per person... Having compared the same trip with various airlines, Ryanair does seem to come out the cheapest.

These are a few examples of prices but they do fluctuate greatly, depending upon number of persons and when you wish to travel. Check out the many offers available, especially if you are open to when and where you want to travel.

(When travelling, always carry your residence certificate to claim discounts. To certify the residence of Europeans you must bring a photocopy of the certificate and passport or documentation.)

  1. I like your article. It's a great help. I guess Ryanair is also one of the cheap flights to Tenerife.
