Los Cristianos Carnival 2011

Carnivals and Fiesta's figure highly with the Canarian way of life…so don’t fret if you are missing the Carnival in Santa Cruz this year. Although this is a more modest event, the ‘Carnival of Los Cristianos is still a fabulous spectacle that shouldn’t be missed.

So, if you live in the South, having a local Carnival means you don’t have to travel too far with friends or family and you can enjoy more than a few good days entertainment. To be held this year between Friday 18 and Monday 28 March.

For those who did attend the Santa Cruz Carnival, keeping up with the long list of fiestas will be exhausting so take a deep breath, pace yourself and join in with the merriment!

Residents and tourist’s look forward to this annual celebration. Some enthusiasts travel to Tenerife annually to take in the Carnival…This year’s theme will be based upon the circus; the streets will be filled with music, colourful parades, shows, fancy dress and dancing till the early hours.

Last years carnival was based on the theme ‘Viva Mexico’ and there was so much to see…Gorgeous flamenco dancers of all ages, Vikings in kilts; children dressed a SpongeBob Square pants, and a spectacular array of floats. Everyone was dressed in bright colours, the procession was fabulous and very eye catching…if this year is anything like the festivities of 2010, you will be dazzled and delighted!

As visitors coming to Tenerife increase quite significantly during the weeks of fiestas; it seems to be an annual trend that will obviously benefit trade. Apartments seem to be booked up, there is obviously going to be lots of chaos where parking is concerned over this period as many streets will be closed. You may need to leave home a little earlier to get around the diversions in the centre.
