Get Fit and Healthy in 2010....Part 3
Following on with our series of blogs on how to start 2010 with health and fitness in mind, this week we bring you information on walking and kite surfing!
Tenerife has such a diverse and stunning landscape that walking hardly feels like exercise. However, walking is one of the best forms of exercise to undertake, it is gentle on the body and joints compared to high impact exercise and it is suitable for almost everyone. Wherever you live or are holidaying in Tenerife, there is ample opportunity to get outside and do some walking. If you take a stroll along Las Americas and Los Cristianos beach front you will have walked almost 3km without even noticing! This is an especially nice walk first thing in the morning when there are less people around.
Other interesting walks include Puerto Colon along to Fañabe along the seafront. For the more advertursome among you, why not try a hike up the Guaza mountain, when you reach the top you will find lovely views down towards Los Cristianos. Another walk worth mentioning is Barranco Del Infierno. This is walk through a valley which leads to a waterfall at the end. There is a small fee payable for this walk but in our opinion it is most certainly worth it (find out more about it here!). For more ideas on the many walking routes in Tenerife see here.
As with any kind of exercise, please ensure you wear the right footware and take plently of water and sunblock.
Want to make the most of the sun and exercise in the ocean? Well how about trying Kite Surfing or Wind Surfing in El Medano? El Medano is near the airport and notoriously windy making it perfect for all kinds of surfing. There are ample opportunities to try out this sport with numerous windsurfing and kitesurfing schools along El Medano beach front.
Lessons are relatively inexpensive starting at approx 10 euros for a 2 hour lesson (check individual schools for exact pricing) and range from beginners to advanced lessons. There are also discounts available for bulk lessons. This is a great, fun way to exercise.

This week we have found a fun and fabulous way to kick off January new year's resolutions to get fit and healthy - POLE DANCING with Stefania Roberto at Polercise Plus.

Tenerife's wonderful weather and abundance of restaurants and bars make it easy to forget about healthy living and fitness and simply focus on enjoying the laid back lifestyle the island has to offer.
This is especially true considering Christmas is now upon us and the majority of us will happily overindulge over the coming weeks (We at Sunway Tenerife will, regardless of all of our good intentions....we already have the Christmas cookies and mince pies out!)
So with this in mind, and New Year's resolutions to be considered, we thought we would feature some of the many exercise options in Tenerife over the coming weeks.
Tenerife has some fun and unique fitness activities available for residents and holiday visitors alike regardless of fitness levels ranging from pole dancing, walking clubs and even kite surfing!
This week we look at personal training with Dymphna Byrne.

Having trained in Alicante, Dymphna has over 10 years of experience of getting clients into shape with personalised fitness plans. She also runs "bootcamp" classes with small groups as well as other classes in the south of Tenerife. Whitney Houston en concierto en Tenerife
Whitney Houston ha confirmado a través de su página web oficial que se llevará a cabo un concierto en Tenerife el próximo año!
De acuerdo a su lista de fechas de ejecución, el concierto tendrá lugar el viernes 30 de abril 2010 en Adeje Golf Course, menos de un año después de la actuación fabulosa Rod Stewart, en mayo de 2009.
Las entradas no parecen estar a la venta y todavía no se ha producido un anuncio del concierto de Sun Live Canarias, que organizó los últimos dos conciertos en Adeje Golf. Tan pronto como nosotros aquí en Sunway Tenerife nos enteremos de la información para comprar las entradas para el concierto se lo informaremos!!!

Whitney Houston to perform in Tenerife!
Whitney Houston has confirmed via her official website that she will perform a concert in Tenerife next year!
According to her list of performance dates, the concert will take place on Friday the 30th April 2010 at Adeje Golf Course, less than a year after Rod Stewart´s fabulous performance in May 2009 .
Tickets do not appear to be for sale just yet and there has been no announcement of the concert from Sun Live Canarias, who organised the previous two concerts in Adeje Golf. As soon as we here at Sunway Tenerife hear of how to purchase concert tickets we will let you know!
Whitney joins a growing number of huge stars that perform in Tenerife and here´s to hoping for even more iconic concerts in the future!

K9 NEEDS OUR HELP
K9 are an established charity located in the South of Tenerife. They do some marvelous work rehoming and helping local cats and dogs, many of which have been abandoned. Please read their letter below, and if you are able to, help in whichever way you can.....

K9Tenerife is a Spanish Registered Charity (Nº 3147) run by volunteers in the South of Tenerife. The purpose of the organisation is to protect, to the best of our ability, animals from cruelty, starvation and neglect, and to neuter and spay where possible to avoid over population. At the moment there is no official government funding and we rely solely on you the public for donations and sponsorships.
We were formed in 1993 (our official title is Refugio de Los Animales-K9) by three lady residents in the South of Tenerife, who were moved by the plight of the poor and neglected abandoned animals on the island. At first the rescued animals (dogs and cats) were kept in kennels that had been constructed by friends and volunteers on some land belonging to one of the founder members. K9 Tenerife raised funds for the upkeep of the animals by organising Car Boot Sales, Dinner dances, the placing of Collection Boxes in Bars and the collection of funds at the local markets.
We currently rent kennels in the Las Chafiras / San Miguel area in the South of Tenerife which are suitable for housing around 55 to 60 dogs comfortably, although most days we have upwards of 80 in our care!
K9 is making an urgent appeal for help.
Always, money needs to be spent on animal food, vet bills, medicines, parasite sprays and a variety of things needed for the daily, weekly and monthly running of the kennels. MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. As an animal Sanctuary we simply cannot do without it! The kennels cost at least as much if not slightly higher than a year ago to run but one problem now exists, shortage of MONEY because of the economic climate in general. Because of this, funds are much more difficult to raise, from markets, car boot fares, nearly new sales etc. The truth is we are only raising less than half the MONEY we were a year ago. We thought it was hard then but now.
We need to raise €10,000 urgently to keep us going. We have 78 dogs and 30 cats in our care and these animals need your help desperately, without an urgent injection of funds our future looks gloomy and questionable. If we close down the fate of these animals is unknown. If you can make a donation to us, large or small, we would be so grateful, advertising your generosity if you agree to this. Las buenas noticias que recientemente se publican en el mercado inmobiliario de España y Canarias también las notamos en Sunway Tenerife La Inmobiliaria.
Los informes recientes de www.Rightmove.co.uk/overseas/ indica que solicitudes de información sobre propiedades en España y Las Islas Canarias han aumentado por 150% con la mayoría de clientes que buscan una jubilación o la residencia secundaria. Homeoverseas.co.uk apoya esta vista, indicando que España y las Islas Canarias han sido el número 1 buscado para el destino de compra de propiedad con solicitudes de informacion habiendo crecido por 31% en un mes por base de meses .
Qué significa esta información para nosotros en Sunway y usted, el cliente?
Bien, el número de solicitudes que hemos recibido en propiedades en venta ha aumentado mes a mes todos los años. En 2009 hasta ahora hemos visto un aumento de 38% con respecto al número de solicitudes de todo 2008. A pesar de estar en medio de una recesión (sí, esa temida palabra) hemos vendido más propiedades este año ( hasta la fecha) que todo el año pasado. Parece que la recesión no apagará los sueños de los que aún quieren comprar en Tenerife. La recesión ha sido un tiempo difícil para muchos (elaboraré en esto en un minuto) pero ha comenzado una nueva tendencia en la escena de ventas . ... Conocimientos ....clientes todavía capazes de comprar son más prácticos y más precabidos en lo que hay en el mercado y tienen más precaución a la hora de tomar la decisión. Los inversionastes actuales son un poco más cautos y buscan grandes gangas que actualmente existen en el mercado y se estan aprovechando de la ocación.
Las Inmobiliarias que les avalan años de experiencia (Sunway Tenerife LTD) han visto que los ultimos 2 años han consolidado sus habilidades para encontrar las mejores propiedades a mejores precios (precios reales y asequibles) para sus clientes. ¡Una buena Inmobiliaria proporcionará un servicio amistoso y legal que reuna las necesidades de cada uno (nada de promesas falsas y modales poco eticos).
España / Canarias también han visto que las hipotecas han aumentado en un 15% desde Mayo 2009. Mientras puede ser difícil de predecir cuánto tiempo estos precios se mantendran.Ya hay rumores de que los precios en España y las Canarias han tocado fondo. Esto significa que los inversores que aún creen que esperar es la mejor forma para conseguir precios más bajos, van a perder oportunidades muy buenas que actualmente hay en el mercado.
Mientras la recesión es un período potencialmente bueno de inversión para los que todavía pueden invertir o comprar una residencia secundaria, las cosas son dramáticamente diferentes para esos vendedores que les cuesta mucho recuperarse debido a pérdidas de trabajos y/o tipos de interés más altos con sus hipotecas. A pesar de toda la estadística acerca de aumentos en solicitudes y cantidades de propiedades vendidas, nosotros estamos todavía muy lejos de las compra-ventas de los tiempos "buenos". Esos vendedores que no necesitan vender pueden esperar un poco más para no mal vender sus propiedades.
El consejo de Sunway Tenerife a vendedores es .... asegurarse con su banco cual es el limite, para que no entren en problemas de impagos de mensualidades y corran el riesgo de perder su propiedad (aveces es mejor bajar un poco el precio y vender, que intentar obtener grandes beneficios y perderlo todo.) No cometan el error que estan cometiendo muchos.. esperar hasta última hora para vender, cuando ya no hay remedio y el banco ejecute el EMBARGO.
Aún existen Inmobiliarias con buenas eticas y consientes de los problemas actuales con capacidad y conocimientos de poder ayudar a vendedores en situaciones criticas. Good news for property buyers?
There has been very encouraging news recently for the property market in Spain and the Canary Islands and here at Sunway Tenerife The Estate Agents we have also noticed a difference.
Recent reports from www.Rightmove.co.uk/overseas/ indicate that property enquiries have increased by 150% with the majority of clients looking for a retirement or second home. Homeoverseas.co.uk support this view, stating that Spain and the Canaries have been the number 1 searched for property purchase destination with enquiries having grown by 31% on a month by month basis.
So, what does that mean for us at Sunway and you, the client?
Well, the number of enquiries we have received on properties for sale has increased month on month every year.In 2009 so far we have seen an increase of 38% in comparison to the number of enquiries for the whole of 2008. And despite being in the midst of a recession (yes, that dreaded word) we have sold more properties for clients this year so far than the whole of last year. It seems the recession will not dampen the dreams of those who are serious about buying in Tenerife. The recession has been a difficult time for many (I will elaborate on this in a minute) but it has started a new trend in the property scene....Knowledge....clients still able to buy are more savvy and do more research on buying procedures and property markets. There are many clued up investors watching the market in Tenerife and snapping up the bargains.
For those Estate Agents that know their stuff and deliver on their word, the past 2 years have seen them consolidating their positions and using their skills to find the best properties and best prices (for everything from the actual property price to the best removal services) for their clients. A good Estate Agent will provide a friendly, knowledgeable service which is flexible to your needs with none of that "hard selling" palaver that we are apparently notorious for!
Spain and the Canary Islands have also seen mortgage lending rise by 15% since May 2009. Things seem to be looking up for property buyers but this won´t last forever. While it can be difficult to predict how long bargain properties will be available for before values rise again, there has been whispers written recently that prices in Spain and the Canaries have now bottomed out. Those waiting for property prices to drop even more may be disappointed if they wait too long to invest.
While the recession is a potentially good investment period for those who can still afford to invest or buy a second home, things are dramatically different for those sellers that are nearing repossessions due to loss of jobs and/or higher mortgage interest rates. Regardless of all the statistics about increases in enquiries and amounts of properties sold, we are still nowhere near the figures of the reckless buying boom of the "good" times. Those sellers who do not need to sell can wait for a reasonable offer to come along but those desperate to sell can not.
Sunway´s advice to sellers is this....make sure you remain aware of levels of debt being accrued and build up the best relationship you can with banks and the Estate Agents your property is with. It can be so easy to bury our heads in the sand when it comes to debt and repossession threats but please don´t. We have seen first hand the devastation this can cause.
Some Estate Agents are now faced with a whole different set of procedures to navigate regarding repossessions. A good Estate Agent knows how best to help you sell your property and ensure all procedures are followed. They will know how to advise you in the run up to selling and advise you who to talk to for advice. They will be happy to go through your queries and will be able to expertly advise you. Guia de aconteciementos en Septiembre en Tenerife
¡Hay mucho pasando en Tenerife este mes asi que aquí en Sunway pensamos que nosotros le daríamos una pequeña vista general de algunos de los festivales y los acontecimientos usted no esta consciente que estan pasando!
¿Se imagina bailar la noche bajo las estrellas? Esta semana la aldea de Los Abrigos, cerca de Golf Del Sur acoge una serie de grandes actividades. Esta noche es la "elección de la reina de las fiestas patronales de Nuestra Señora del Carmen" donde muchas niñas estarán compitiendo por la Corona de Los Abrigos.
La noche del viernes (11/09/2009) hay un "baile", que consiste en merengue-salsa en vivo al aire libre en la plaza de la aldea. La música comienza a las 11,30 de la noche y no acaba hasta después de las 5,00 de la mañana. Hay una pequeña feria justo en Los Abrigos, toda la semana se podra disfrutar de qioscos que sirven comida y bebida durande tarde / noche a precios razonables.
¡El sábado por la tarde es el gran evento! Una procesión con la imagen de La Virgen, llevada en un barco asi a fuera del puerto donde se acompañia con los vecinos en otros barcos al son de musica y pitos, con peticiones a La Virgen para salud y suerte a los pescadores de Los Abrigos. Una vez que los barcos alcanzan la costa y la Imagen es devuelta a la iglesia, comienzan los fuegos artificiales (debe ser visto) sobre el mar en la frente de Los Abrigos. Más tarde, a medianoche, habrá otro baile al aire libre hasta las horas tempranas de la mañana.
¡El día final de fiesta de Los Abrigos habra una paella inmensa hecha por la gente del pueblo y comision de fiesta que es repartido junto con bebidas gratis!
¿Adeje más cercano para ti? Este fin de semana hay también una fiesta en la aldea de La Quinta, un poco más allá de Adeje y Taucho. Habrá el fin de semana varias actividades inclusive un partido de espuma, los juegos para niños, la masa y un concierto canario de folklore. En tanto en el sábado como la noche del domingo un baile amenizada con las orquestas populares La Wamampy y Timisay.

Las fiestas en Tenerife son muy populares con la gente de zona, personas transinjientes y residentes. Casi cada pueblo y aldea acogen una fiesta por lo menos una vez un año, todo con grupos en directo y fuegos artificiales. También en septiembre hay las "fiestas de Cristo" en La Laguna que celebra a Cristo. Una multitud de acontecimientos sucederá como procesiones, los conciertos por la famosa grupo folklorico Los Sabandeños y la Orquesta sinfónica de Tenerife. Las fiestas también serán tenidas junto con juegos de niños, los encuentros deportivos, las exposiciones tradicionales de Canarias y bailando entre mucho mucho más. ¡Esta fiesta vale la pena visitarla y como están hasta el 26 septiembre 2009, hay más que suficiente tiempo de ir más de una vez!

Una procesión con la imagen de La Virgen, llevada en un barco asi a fuera del puerto donde se acompañia con los vecinos en otros barcos al son de musica y pitos, con peticiones a La Virgen para salud y suerte a los pescadores de Los Abrigos. Una vez que los barcos alcanzan la costa y la Imagen es devuelta a la iglesia, comienzan los fuegos artificiales (debe ser visto) sobre el mar en la frente de Los Abrigos. Más tarde, a medianoche, habrá otro baile al aire libre hasta las horas tempranas de la mañana.
¡El día final de fiesta de Los Abrigos habra una paella inmensa hecha por la gente del pueblo y comision de fiesta que es repartido junto con bebidas gratis!
¿Adeje más cercano para ti? Este fin de semana hay también una fiesta en la aldea de La Quinta, un poco más allá de Adeje y Taucho. Habrá el fin de semana varias actividades inclusive un partido de espuma, los juegos para niños, la masa y un concierto canario de folklore. En tanto en el sábado como la noche del domingo un baile amenizada con las orquestas populares La Wamampy y Timisay.

Las fiestas en Tenerife son muy populares con la gente de zona, personas transinjientes y residentes. Casi cada pueblo y aldea acogen una fiesta por lo menos una vez un año, todo con grupos en directo y fuegos artificiales. También en septiembre hay las "fiestas de Cristo" en La Laguna que celebra a Cristo. Una multitud de acontecimientos sucederá como procesiones, los conciertos por la famosa grupo folklorico Los Sabandeños y la Orquesta sinfónica de Tenerife. Las fiestas también serán tenidas junto con juegos de niños, los encuentros deportivos, las exposiciones tradicionales de Canarias y bailando entre mucho mucho más. ¡Esta fiesta vale la pena visitarla y como están hasta el 26 septiembre 2009, hay más que suficiente tiempo de ir más de una vez!

Tenerife Events in September 2009
There is a lot going on in Tenerife this month so here at Sunway we thought we would give you a small overview of some of the festivals and events you may not have been aware of!
Fancy dancing the night away under the stars with the locals? This week the village of Los Abrigos, near Golf Del Sur hosts a grand array of festivities. Tonight is the "election of the fiesta queen" where many hopefuls will be competing for the Los Abrigos Crown.
Friday night (11/09/2009) there is a "baile", which consists of a live merengue / salsa band playing open air in the village square. The music starts at 11.30 pm and doesn´t finish until after 5.00 am. There is a small fair ground in Los Abrigos all week aswell and at night time a tempting array of food and drink is available from street kiosks.
Saturday evening is the biggie! A procession will take place, with religious statues from the local church being carried to fishermen´s boats lit up with sparkly lights. The boats then sail out to sea and back to bring luck to the fisherman´s trade for the following year. Once the boats reach the shore and the statues are being carried back to the church, a fantastic fireworks display will take place over the sea in front of Los Abrigos. Later on, at midnight, there will be another open air baile until the early hours of the morning.
The final day of Los Abrigos fiesta see´s a huge paella being made which is handed out along with drinks for free!
Nearer Adeje? This weekend there is also a fiesta in the village of La Quinta, just past Adeje and Taucho. Over the weekend there will be various activities including a foam party, games for children, mass and a canarian folklore concert. On both Saturday and Sunday night a baile will take place with the popular bands La Wamampy and Timisay.

Fiestas in Tenerife are very popular with locals, holidays makers and residents alike. Almost every town and village hosts a fiesta at least once a year, all with live bands and firework displays. A multitude of events will take place such as processions, concerts by the famous Los Sabandeños and the Tenerife symphony Orchestra. This fiesta is worth visiting and as it is on until the 26th September 2009, there is more than enough time to go more than once!

BUYING A BUSINESS IN TENERIFE
Tenerife is the perfect place to set-up a business, with all year round sunshine attracting thousands visitors and of course let’s no forget the residents

Here are some of Sunway´s tips when thinking about setting up a business and being your own boss:
1 – Seek out advice – Speak to others who have a business in
This will enable you to fully understand the buying and setting up processes in

An opening licence will confirm what type of business the premises are licenced for and also show that the business is fully legal and registered

Rental Contract – You must also get a copy of this, this will tell you:
- If the seller has the right to sell the lease
- The rental period left on the contract
- Whether the contract is renewable at the end of the current period

- Who pays for what ,ie, refuse collection, rates, water, electricity, taxes,etc

The contract should specify every item which is included in the sale, terms and time scales involved and guarantee that the business is free of encumbrance, debts and liabilities
Finally, The signing of the contract and handing over of money should be done at the Notary
